Prior to being converted to a Marina Jefferson Beach Marina was an amusement park complete with roller coaster, carousel, fun house, arcade, floating dance hall and an illuminated beach area for night swimming. The park opened in 1927 and drew large crowds throughout the pre-war heydays of theme parks. In 1955 a huge fire swept through the park, and so began the change to install boat wells and refocus operations on boating and marine equipment. In 1959 the park officially closed and the expansion of Jefferson Beach Marina began. Today, the location still serves as a destination for lakeside recreation, drawing boaters from all over the great lakes region to experience the Nautical Mile and the international waters of Lake St. Clair.
